Yesterday we visited the Gulfoss Waterfalls and got to witness an active Geyser. We had lunch in a beautiful family run tomato greenhouse followed by a drive across tectonic plate boundaries into the rift valley at Thingvellir National Park. Can’t wait for today’s adventures! pic.twitter.com/sEyInerrHC

Examinations

Public examinations take place during November, January and May/June for students in years 10, 11, 12 and 13.  Schools in Wales tend to use WJEC, but we have BTEC and LIBF exams too which take place on various dates throughout the year.

Key dates for WJEC examinations can be found on their website:

https://www.wjec.co.uk/home/administration/key-dates-and-timetables

GCSE: 7th May - 26th June 2024

GCE: 13th May - 26th June 2024

Results days are 15th August for AS/A2 and 22nd August for GCSE from 9:30am in school. Results will be emailed to students school email account too. To access this a student must go the school website and:

  • From the menu select students, student email
  • For the username, enter schoolsedu\ and their usual school network login, followed by schoolsedu.org.uk, eg schoolsedu\[email protected]

  • enter their usual network password
  • Sometimes when a student logs on it asks for the timezone  – if that happens the timezone is UTC+ 00:00 Dublin, Edinborough, Lisbon, London

WJEC Key Dates

Public examinations typically start at 9.00am in the morning and at 1.00pm in the afternoon. However, students must check their start times on their individual examination timetables. Students should arrive 15 minutes before the examination is due to start. Student examination timetables will detail start times and locations. Please be advised that all students are expected to wear full school uniform to each of their exams.

Council for Qualifications Guidance
Throughout the examination process strict procedures are put in place by the Joint Council for Qualifications, which must be adhered to. Students are required to review the important guidance for students, which is accessible via the link https://www.jcq.org.uk/exams-office/information-for-candidates-documents/

Mock Examinations
Year 11 mock examinations take place during November/December; Year 13 mock examinations take place during January; and Year 12 mock examinations take place during February. These are designed to support students by providing a 'real' experience of public assessments, in similar conditions.

Year 7 - 9 National Testing
All students in Wales sit a series of tests in Years 7-9. The aim of these are to provide detailed information on each individual student's development and progress in reading and numeracy (reasoning). The tests also show where individual students may need more assistance to help improve their specific skill(s).

GCSE/Level 2 Qualifications & A Level/Level 3 Qualifications
Most written examinations are sat by students during the summer examination series in May and June of each year. In addition to these, students from Years 10-13 may be involved in controlled assessments, orals, practical units and Non-Examination Assessments (NEAs) throughout their respective courses. Students may also complete GCSE English Language, GCSE Mathematics and GCSE Numeracy written examinations during the November examination series and GCSE English Literature and Health and Social Care units during the January series.

Individual student examination timetables are distributed electronically prior to each examination series, and are also available as a print out from the school office. During the examination period, all students are required to arrive at the examination venue no later than 8:35am for morning sessions and 12:35pm for afternoon sessions. Full uniform is required and the sixth form dress code maintained for all examinations.

Students are offered support throughout the year in preparation for their examinations and assessments. This is delivered in the form of additional subject specific revision sessions and a series of sessions aimed at developing each students’ revision techniques and strategies.
