Operation Compass

Dear Parent/Carer

Re:  Operation Encompass

We have been provided with the opportunity to participate in a project, Operation Encompass that will run jointly between schools and Gwent Police. The vision of Operation Encompass is to safeguard children and young people who are affected by domestic abuse, by ensuring that appropriate services are made aware of an incident at the earliest possible opportunity.

Operation Encompass facilitates the sharing of information between Police and schools. It involves the reporting to schools, prior to 9 am on the next school day, when a child or young person has been exposed to, or involved in, any domestic abuse incident. This project will ensure that a member of the school staff, known as a Key Adult (i.e. Designated Safeguarding Officer), will use the information that has been shared, in confidence, in order to support any children who have been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident.

We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this project will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.

Yours sincerely

S G Mock
