Yesterday we visited the Gulfoss Waterfalls and got to witness an active Geyser. We had lunch in a beautiful family run tomato greenhouse followed by a drive across tectonic plate boundaries into the rift valley at Thingvellir National Park. Can’t wait for today’s adventures! pic.twitter.com/sEyInerrHC

Welcome

 Emma BakerWelcome to the sixth form at Caldicot School. Many of our Year 11 students choose to continue their education with us and we value the continued confidence and trust that they, and their parents, place in the school. We also welcome new students each year that choose to join our school community when they finish year 11.

Sixth form students are always keen to continue to build upon the excellent relationships they have with staff and this is demonstrated by their desire to contribute to the life of the school through their involvement in mentoring younger students and their involvement in extra curricular activities.

Students in Years 12 and 13 can choose to follow courses from a wide range of subjects at AS level in one year or A levels over two years. Level 3 courses including Diplomas are also available. For students joining our sixth form, we are proud to offer

  • An already well-established working relationship with our staff;
  • A high quality of learning and teaching recognised in our most recent Estyn inspection;
  • Supportive pastoral care;
  • Robust academic target setting, tracking and monitoring;
  • Guidance and advice for post 18 pathways, including UCAS support;
  • A wide and varied enrichment programme; and
  • Designated study and social areas exclusively for sixth form students.

In addition, students have a range of opportunities to experience and explore university courses through

University visits: Throughout Year 12 and Year 13, students have opportunities to attend presentations in school from various universities, employers and apprenticeship providers. The school provides a visit to a UCAS discovery event during the summer term after examinations.

Access to Bristol: Caldicot School has a very successful partnership with the University of Bristol. We offer support with the Access to Bristol programme and we have many successful students who visit Bristol on Wednesday afternoons to experience lectures and university life.

Seren Academy: This Welsh Government initiative is dedicated to supporting Wales' brightest learners achieve their full academic potential and support their route into leading universities in the UK and overseas. We work closely with our Welsh Seren coordinator, university partners and identified students to provide opportunities such as masterclasses and applications support. Many students are highly successful with applications to Oxbridge and Russell Group universities.

Summer Schools: Sixth form students are given the opportunity to apply for summer schools. Here, students are offered a residential experience at university for up to a week, where they attend lectures, tutorials and seminars.  These are provided free of charge (including accommodation and transport) by various universities including Edinburgh, Bristol, Southampton and Oxford.
