Year 6 Transition
As a parent/carer of a child in Year 6, we are sure that you have already started to consider your choice of secondary school for your child. We understand that you will want to ensure that your child has the best chance of fulfilling their academic potential. However, at Caldicot we very much believe that it is equally important for a school to help children to develop socially, within a warm and happy environment.
The evening provided the perfect opportunity for you and your child to see what Caldicot School has to offer. We pride ourselves on our unique House system which develops high standards, strong values, a sense of community and academic ambition. All students and staff belong to one of four Houses: Attenborough; Bevan; Curie; and Pankhurst. House ties are worn by students with a real sense of pride. Each House is overseen by a Head of House and Assistant Head of House. Additionally, if your child chooses to stay on for sixth form, our students in the Sixth Form apply for prestigious leaderships roles within their allocated House.
Throughout the year, each department holds House competitions and Houses compete in Sports Day, the school Eisteddfod, half-termly attendance awards and Choir competitions. Individual students also have the opportunity to achieve House points which accumulate towards various rewards throughout the year. We also run a full and varied programme of trips (both within the UK and abroad)
We are so pleased that the community were able to come and see what Caldicot has to offer, and the written feedback has been amazing.
Our recent Open Evening (16 Oct 2025) received overwhelmingly positive feedback from parents, carers and visitors. Many praised the welcoming atmosphere, enthusiasm of students, and the professionalism of our staff.
Parents were particularly impressed by the student engagement, with many commenting on how friendly, polite and enthusiastic pupils were throughout the evening. The opportunity to talk directly with teachers in each department was described as “hugely valuable” and “energising”.
Many noted a renewed sense of positivity and direction within the school community, highlighting the strong leadership and the successful introduction of the House system.
