Coping with Online Safety

The internet has transformed the way in which we live our lives. It allows us to interact and communicate with our friends, purchase items and keep up-to-date with news and information. However, while the internet has significant benefits, when used badly it can have a significant impact on people. Therefore, we need to make sure we use it wisely and protect ourselves from harms, including fraud, abuse and exploitation.

In this section you will find resources that provide tips, advice and guidance on the keeping yourself safe online.

Here are some of the organisations who may be able to help

  • NSPCC is the UK's leading children's charity, set up over 130 years ago. The NSPCC offers advice to the UK Government, and devolved governments to help shape policy, as well as making use of donations to support children and young people.
  • CEOP is the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command. It is part of the National Crime Agency which support child and young people from online harms. Indiviudals can submit an online report, which provides access to one of CEOP's Child Protection Advisors.

  • UK Safer Internet Centre provides advice and support to children, young people and families on a range of internet related issues. These include gaming; misuse of information; social media etc. They also provide a hotline to support victims of online abuse.
