Initial Teacher Education
Caldicot School is a Lead Partner School for the Cardiff Metropolitan University initial teacher education programme. This aims to provide high quality training for the next generation of teachers in Wales. The programme is designed to ensure that PGCE students not only achieve, but surpass the Professional Standards for Qualified Teacher Status. This is achieved through high-quality, practical and intellectually challenging professional education. As part of this, trainee teachers benefit from undertaking their training in partnership with Lead Partner Schools, including Caldicot School.
As a Lead Partner School, we
- support the University in training student teachers to teach the Curriculum for Wales across the full age-range of secondary school;
- provide ITE students with 15 days of school-based training, which including professional learning and research opportunities; and
- host up to 30 trainee teachers each year (up to 15 per placement), providing high quality research-informed clinical practice.
